EWL participates in 4th International Conference on the Survivors of Rape

[Lisbon, 28 November] Organised by AMCV, member of the Portuguese Platform of the EWL, this conference gathered 200 participants from Europe and beyond. NGOs, survivors, lawyers, researchers and political stakeholders discussed and exchanged ways to improve the prevention of rape and responses to meet survivors needs.

During 3 days, workshops and presentations gave the opportunity to listen to survivors’voices and ways to overcome trauma by self-help groups; to envisage better cooperation between agencies; to debate on how the justice system contributes to the prevention and recovery process.

The closing session, devoted on "How European NGO platforms assess sexual violence in EU?", Colette De Troy, director of the EWL Observatory on VAW, presented the EWL Barometer on Rape 2013, which shows the necessary steps to improve legislation on rape in Europe and the huge needs on services for women victims and survivors of rape.
