European Women’s Lobby invited to EP hearing on "Sexual exploitation and Prostitution - Its impact on gender equality"

[Brussels, 7 February 2014] The European Women’s Lobby (EWL) has been invited to present its work and the situation in Europe regarding prostitution, at a hearing organised by the S&D group on 19 February 2014 in the European Parliament. This hearing aims at feeding into the discussion of the Members of the European Parliament on the report of rapporteur Ms Honeyball, to be adopted in plenary the week of 24 February.

The EWL welcomes this event, which is important to bring relevant information to the discussion on the report of Ms Honeyball. The hearing will benefit from the expertise and analysis of survivors, academics, NGOs, representatives of national and European bodies dealing with gender equality and trafficking. Please see the programme below.

We hope that MEPs will use this opportunity to increase their knowledge about the reality of prostitution and trafficking, and their impact on gender equality. The EWL has published ’18 myths on prostitution’ in order to help to bring the debate to a progressive and human-rights based discussion.

See the registration information on the poster below. You can read here the press release of the European Parliament on the adoption of the report last month by the Women’s Rights and Gender Equality Committee. Read also here an article of Ms Honeyball presenting her report.
