Orla O’Connor from the National Women’s Council of Ireland named in TIME 100 list of influential people

[Brussels, 2 May 2019]

We are delighted to announce that our colleague Orla O’Connor from the National Women’s Council of Ireland, together with Grainne Griffin, a founding member of the Abortion Rights Campaign and Ailbhe Smyth, Convenor of the Coalition to Repeal the Eighth Amendment, have been named in TIME magazine’s annual list of the 100 most influential people in 2019 in recognition of their work for the Together for Yes campaign in the Irish referendum on reproductive rights.

The annual list includes TIME’s 100 most influential people such as politicians, celebrities and activists. Together for Yes is the national civil society campaign to remove the Eighth Amendment from the Constitution. It brings together a wide range of civil society organisations who represent various sectors of Irish society.

Orla O’Connor is Director of the National Women’s Council of Ireland (NWCI), the leading national women’s membership organisation in Ireland, with over 180 member groups. We are very proud to have Orla and the National Women’s Council of Ireland as a member of the European Women’s Lobby and part of the feminist movement in Europe.
