The EWL team completes 20km of Brussels for women’s rights!

[Brussels, 31 May 2012] An EWL team took part in the 20km of Brussels for the first time this year. On 27 May the members of the EWL team put on their running shoes and ran 20km through the streets of Brussels under the sun and to the applause of the crowds.

Last year, in 2011, the 20km of Brussels brought together about 30000 people, including 8000 women (i.e. 25%). This year, in 2012, women were a bit less underrepresented: out of 34186 participants, 8869 were women, (i.e. 26%).

In the EWL team, on the contrary, women were well represented: out of the 76 members 52 were women and 24 were men. The EWL was proud to bring together such a diverse and motivated team: 19 different nationalities were represented and the runners were ranged from 15 to 60 years old. All the members of the EWL team who took the starting line finished valiantly the 20km of Brussels.

The team had chosen this year to run under the motto ‘Run for women’s rights – Be part of HER story’ to raise awareness and money for women’s rights and gender equality in Europe. The members of the EWL team were easily recognisable are they were wearing T-shirts in the color of the EWL with the slogan ‘destination = equality’.

In view of this successful and enjoyable first experience the team consider joining the race again next year for women’s rights and equality!
