Internship opportunities at the EWL Secretariat

Posted on 2 October 2010

The EWL Secretariat runs an internship programme aiming to provide students and recent graduates with a practical insight into political work on women’s rights and equality between women and men at European level and the functioning of the European Union institutions.

There exist only two internship possibilities with EWL – you are advised to carefully read the following information prior to any application.

There is also the possibility to do an unpaid internship with our Administration Team. See below.

Paid internships

One or two Paid internships for a period of six-months are selected through a Call for Applications each year. Please note that it is not possible to apply for a paid internship when there is no open call for applications.

Call for applications: EWL internship - socio-economic policies - July to December 2014

Unpaid internships

Unpaid internships in the policy/communication unit

The EWL regularly welcomes unpaid interns, all year long, for internships of usually 3 months, sometimes longer. We will be looking for interns starting in December 2013 and therefore welcome all applications until end of September 2013. (application form below)

To apply, please download the application form below. If you recently submitted an application while there was no call open, please update your application and resubmit in order to be considered.

Unpaid internships must be undertaken within academic or other programmes, preferably sponsored by an institution other than EWL and for a period of minimum 3 months. The conditions are the following:

  • You are a student
  • You are available for a duration of 3 months (or more if a longer internship is required by the university)
  • Your internship can be regulated by a convention/contract with a school / university
  • You have some demonstrated knowledge of women’s rights / gender equality issues and of European Union policies and institutions
  • You have a valid work permit to work in Belgium (for persons who are not nationals of countries of the EU and European Economic Area (and for Romanian and Bulgarian nationals, where a work permit is still necessary until 2014), except for those who are studying in Belgium (requirement of Belgian legislation).

If you are interested in an unpaid internship when a call for candidatures is open, please download the application form and return to Pierrette Pape: pape@womenlobby.org. For any questions or points of clarification, please contact: Pierrette Pape, Internship Coordinator at the EWL: pape@womenlobby.org - Tel +32 (0)2 210 04 25

Unpaid internship in the administration unit

While the main mandate of the EWL is to advocate for women’s rights at EU level, the role of the administrative section of the EWL is instrumental to ensure that the EWL fulfills its mission. As part of the administrative team, you will be involved in all aspects of administration work within the EWL: contacts with members, database work, support to the financial and administrative management, assistance on contacts with providers, support to the policy team for event organisation and logistics, participation to staff meetings, supporting the organization of EWL statutory meetings, helping with the management of relations to EWL donators and friends, etc.

if you are interested, please fill in the application form (click here to download it), and send it to struthers@womenlobby.org and pape@womenlobby.org. We welcome interns all year long.
