European Confederation of Independent Trade Unions (CESI)

The European Confederation of Independent Trade Unions (CESI)

Founded in 1990, the European Confederation of Independent Trade Unions (CESI) is an umbrella organisation gathering more than 40 international and national-level trade union organisations from over 30 European countries. Representing workers from all fields, especially the public sector, CESI defends the interests of more than five million employees.

As a recognised European social partner, CESI is actively engaged in the European social dialogue process. CESI and its members take part in various EU sectoral social dialogue committees. As an independent organisation, CESI is in favour of trade union pluralism and inclusive social dialogue.

Trade councils and commissions, composed of expert representatives of CESI’s members, guide and inform the issue-specific policy advocacy work of the General Secretariat at the national and EU level. In ongoing dialogue with politicians and decision makers, CESI actively inputs into policy debates and represents the interests of its members. CESI holds topical events, making its voice heard more effectively.

In all activities and projects, CESI aims to maximise its visibility and impact in Brussels. CESI works together with other interest groups in different policy areas and plays an active role in several important stakeholder alliances.
