(Brussels 22 July 2014) President Juncker is currently negotiating with Member States to form the new European Commission and a transversal campaign calls him to respect a crucial requirement, to guarantee gender equality in the nomination of commissioners. In the outgoing Commission, only 9 commissioners on 28 were women.

The European Union is committed to making continual progress towards gender equality; hence an increase in the number of female commissioners in the new EU Commission is (...)

Petition - Withdraw the draft bill for the reform of the Spanish Abortion Law

Mozambique: Protect women & girls—reject discrimination in the new Penal Code

[Equality Now call for action] Next month Mozambique is set to enact a new penal code that currently contains provisions that would foster a culture of violence and discrimination if passed as written. The draft legislation would make it easier for rapists to escape prosecution, only considers children under the age of 12 as minors in cases of rape and allows relatives of criminals to get away with tampering with criminal investigations. Mozambican NGOs are also concerned that a provision (...)
