On 2 July 2008 the European Commission made a proposal for a new directive on anti-discrimination legislation outside employment, based on the grounds of religion/belief, sexual orientation, age and disability. This proposed new legislation doesn’t cover discrimination on the ground of sex. It will have to be adopted by unanimity (that is all Member States will need to agree) by the Council of Ministers with consultation of the European Parliament.
