New Website on Violence against Women! The European Policy Action Centre on Violence against Women (EPAC VAW) - which gathers women’s NGOs across Europe to ensure increased recognition of their expertise and support for their work - launched its new website, presenting the European Observatory of experts on violence against women, data and reports on the situation in thirty countries from the European Union and neighboring countries, current news, as well as a wealth of resources on different forms of violence against women. Video Clips on Violence against Women - EPAC VAW website offers two captivating videos. The first one called “Not for sale“, aims at challenging the traditional views and myths about sexual exploitation of women’s bodies. The second one “I am involved” explains the reasons why women’s activists decided to say no to violence in the first place and how fighting violence against women is linked to equality between women and men. Human Rights violations in Moldova: following complications related to a late abortion, a young Moldavian woman, Lucia Sudureac, was sentenced to 20 years in prison in December 2006. There exist one extraordinary legal remedy available but nothing has been done yet. By a written question and making reference to the EU/Moldova Action Plan, MEP Eva-Britt Svensson has posed a written question to the European Commission and the Council on what kind of measures is foreseen to reverse the sentence and stop the violations of the human rights in this case.

 

Latvia - one of the Main Destinations of European Sex Tourism - Latvia is also a transit-point for traffickers who transport victims to the target countries. This is due to its’ geographical location. Riga airport is located on one of the very crucial connection lines within Europe. Preventing human trafficking in these circumstances is a great challenge, and more resources are needed to solve the problem. Read more (Sources: NEWW-Polska)

 

The training on “Developing Legal Skills and Knowledge for Successful Litigation in Cases of Violence against Women” will be held in London on 11 and 12 July 2009 and organized by Interights’ Europe Programme. The application deadline is Sunday, 5 April 2009. The complete call for applications
