One Billion Rising Brussels 2015 – 14/02/2015

On 14 February 2015, the heart of Europe beats against violence against women and girls!

JOIN THE REVOLUTION IN BRUSSELS

2-4 pm: Carrefour de l’Europe in front of the Central Station, Brussels.

One in three women in the world will be beaten or raped during her lifetime, meaning ONE BILLION women. In Europe, 7 women die every day of domestic violence. In Belgium 24% of women have been victims of physical and/or sexual violence by their partner. In 2011, 4083 rapes were recorded, amounting to more than 11 every day. Officials estimate that 90% of sexual violence crimes are not reported.

European Women’s Lobby member organisations from all over Europe participate in One Billion Rising.

In Belgium, the “One Billion Rising Brussels Europe” Platform, comprising women’s associations and partners - the Nederlandstalige Vrouwenraad, le Conseil des Femmes Francophones de Belgique, Plan Belgium and la Marche Mondiale des Femmes contribute to this worldwide movement and proposes a festive and lively event, free and open to everybody, in the heart of Brussels, the heart of Europe, tomorrow, Saturday 14 February 2015.

The EWL has been regularly asking the EU to act and take measures to end this pervasive violation of women’s rights. One Billion Rising will be a key momentum to reiterate the demands of the women’s organizations and challenge decision-makers at all levels.

ONE BILLION RISING is an energy, a platform, a global movement, a catalyst, a worldwide decision to end violence against women, a demand for justice, a paradigm shift, an invitation, a gathering of the ready, housed everywhere, housed in our hearts, you, us, REVOLUTION.

Opportunities for interviews: Viviane Teitelbaum, President of the EWL
