EWL and the Brussels’ Call celebrate the adoption of the French law on the abolition of prostitution

[Brussels, 6 April 2016] Today, the European Women’s Lobby and all signatories of the Brussels’ Call celebrated the adoption by France of a law abolishing the system of prostitution. During the day, abolitionist organisations and activists expressed their support through social media, with group photos and the hashtags #goFrance #AbolitionProstitution. From Norway to Portugal, the USA to Serbia, Canada to Ireland and many other countries, the abolitionist movement strongly welcomes the French law, congratulates the courage of the decision-makers in France, and the work of the French associations, activists and survivors!

The EWL organised a screening of the vote, and invited many supporters and partners to celebrate in its office, including from Sweden, Iceland and Norway! We hope that Ireland will be next in the history of women’s rights and will adopt an abolitionist law to end prostitution and sex trafficking. #goIreland #AbolitionProstitution

The hashtag #goFrance was popular on Twitter, many EWL members and partner organisations posted activist pictures on their accounts, check it out via @EuropeanWomen.
