EWL invited to FRA - Equinet meeting on combating violence against women

[Brussels, 10 December 2014] On 9 December, EWL participated to meeting on violence against women organised by the European Network of Equality Bodies (Equinet) and the Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA) in Brussels to discuss how to enhance cooperation between equality bodies, and European and international organisations.

Colette De Troy, Director of the EWL Observatory on Violence against women gave an overview of the work of the Observatory and highlighted the interest of building links and cooperation between the Equality bodies and women’s NGOs on violence against women: “They are huge resource of expertise, and it is important to include their knowledge for better implementation of equality and human rights standards”.

The meeting is part of the Equinet ad-hoc initiative on violence against women, created for equality bodies to provide opportunities to gain expertise, to discuss needs, as well as to provide possibilities for cooperating between equality bodies and key actors at European and international level in this area. This was also stressed the day before during the observatory meeting as Ilaria Volpe presented Equinet to the EWL Observatory experts.
