Italy - EWL Coordination welcomes approval of quotas for women on boards of administration

[Italian Coordination for the EWL, Rome, 29 June 2011] On 28 June 2011, the Italian Chamber of Representatives translated the bill on women’s quotas in boards of administration into law with a bipartisan vote. The new law states that the boards of directors and the supervisory bodies of listed companies and unlisted public companies will be composed by one fifth of women by 2012 and one third by 2015. Sanctions are provided for in case of failure. The bill will come into force 30 days after publication of the text in the Official Journal.

The Italian Coordination of the EWL was an active participant in the nation-wide lobbying campaign in favour of the approval of the law.
