Jessica Nguyen - Policy and Advocacy Assistant


Jessica joined the EWL Secretariat in September 2019, working on women’s socioeconomic rights, including advocacy on the MFF 2021-2027, EU recovery plans and gender budgeting. She also supports EWL’s engagement with the UN, including the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and EWL’s engagement with the UN’s Action Coalitions.

Jessica holds a Masters in Human Rights Law and Policy, focusing on gender equality, refugee law and children’s rights. Prior to EWL, Jessica worked on the rule of law in Europe with the International Federation for Human Rights’ (FIDH), following the Article 7 TEU procedure on Poland and Hungary, and work for an external consultant at the European Parliament following Committee discussions on women’s rights, human rights and development cooperation.

Jessica has predominantly worked with the Australian federal government in migration and refugee contexts, including cases of child sexual abuse in detention settings. She previously completed two internships with the Australian Permanent Representation in Geneva during their second Universal Periodic Review, and with UN Women in Bangkok. As a feminist, she strives to break down systemic injustices and prejudices, and lead with empathy to shape a world where all diverse women and girls live a free, inclusive and equal life.
