Maltese women’s organisations make free access to morning after pill happen

[UPDATE, 18 October 2016] EWL members of the Malta Confederation of Women’s Organisations (MCWO)] let us know that the emergency pill is now available in Malta without the prescription of the doctor. Credit goes to a number of women in Malta who pressured for it and especially our Dr Lara Dimitrijevic who spearheaded the judicial protest and eventual discussion. You can watch the protest of yesterday here.

[Valetta, 12 October 2016, Press Release by The Malta Confederation of Women’s Organisations (MCWO)] Controversial proposals made by a parliamentary committee in Malta last week, sparked an online petition and a protest to be held this Sunday. Women’s organisations demand that women should not have to get a prescription from their doctors to use the morning-after pill. EWL members from the Malta Confederation of Women’s Organisations (MCWO) strongly disagree with the suggestion that the Morning After Pill (MAP) should be dispensed only through a prescription. The MCWO feels that women in Malta have the right to a wide choice of emergency contraception and that this should be widely available over the country in order to allow women to have more control over their lives, their health and their body.
