Farewell Secretary General Cécile Gréboval

[Brussels, January 10 2014] Yesterday, the European Women’s Lobby said goodbye to Cécile Gréboval, Secretary General and 17 years active at the Lobby. More than 50 (past and present) colleagues and partners from Brussels joined for a nice gathering in the EWL office. EWL President Viviane Teitelbaum praised Cécile’s work spirit, enthusiasm and persistent efforts for more gender equality in Europe.

Cécile Gréboval started working at the EWL in 1996 and was Secretary General of the EWL since 2011. Over the years, Cécile initiated and supported a lot of the great campaigns of the EWL, including the work on the Amsterdam Treaty contributing to the inclusion of an article on equality between women and men in the EU Treaty; the work of the EWL with young women, bringing fresh spirit to the origination, the very successful EWL 50/50 in 2009, the GEAR Campaign, contributing to the creation of UN Women and more recently, the Brussels mobilization for the One Billion Rising event against violence against women or the EWL campaign on prostitution. The Executive and Board of the EWL and members across Europe expressed their gratitude and thanks for these achievements and for Cécile’s relentless commitment to women’s rights in Europe.

During her goodbye speech, Cécile said “For 17 years I have been talking, working, campaigning – sometimes arguing  – with all of you friends and allies of the EWL from NGOs, the European Commission, the European Parliament, UN Women, funders, friends and I would like to send each and every person present today for the support, cooperation and friendship. What is unique to the EWL is the huge network of women from the whole of Europe, my feminist family who has brought me so much over the years, and of course my fabulous team of presidents, executive committee members and colleagues, pas and present. I am immensely happy and proud to have been able to contribute to this wonderful organisation called the European Women’s Lobby, it is time for me to say goodbye but as we say “Once a feminist, always a feminist”, the EWL will always be in my heart and I am sure I will soon find other ways to contribute to make the world a better place for women and girls!”

The EWL Executive, Board and Staff at the Secretariat wish Cécile all the best for the future.
